fad (a style, activity or interest which is very popular, but does not last very long)
- I think that wearing ripped jeans is not a fad, it’s here to stay.
- His interest in walking in the mountains is just a fad.
fade (disappear gradually, lose color)
- The children watched the plane till it fade from view.
- Don’t hang your dress out in the strong sunlight, it will fade.
